Abstract

Academic self-concept is an evaluative self-perception that is formed through experience with and interpretation of one's school environment Our academic self-concept relates to how well we do in school or how well we learn. Meanwhile, self efficacy is defined as a person’s or students’ belief about their ability to do something to achieve a goal. Persons with strong efficacy beliefs are more confident in their capacity to execute a behavior. Beliefs about self efficacy have a significant impact on our goals and accomplishments by influencing personal choice, motivation, and our emotional reactions. The researcher conducts the research to know the relation between these psychological aspects to English speaking ability. This research uses quantitative design by multiple correlation method. The number of the sample is 118 students who are the fourth grade students of English Department in STAIN Kediri. The tehniques of collecting data are two kinds of questionnaires and the middle test score in English Public Speaking. Finally, to know the correlation and constribution of this study, the researcher uses Multiple Correlation and Linear Regression Formula which was computed using SPSS 16. The result is divided into three sessions. First, the students’ academic self concept towards English speaking ability proves in the value of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 < 0.2. It shows that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, in other words it is significant. Based on the significant level of the correlation coefficient this interpretation significance score (0.321) was in the interval 0.200 – 0.400 so the correlation is in low correlation and there is a positive level. For the second, the students’ self efficacy toward English speaking ability. It proves in two tailed level of significant in the value of Sig. 0.162 < 0.2 and shows that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. In other word, it is significant. Based on the significant level of the correlation coefficient this interpretation significance score (0.130) was in the interval 0.00 – 0.200 which it is very low correlation and indicated a positive level. The third, the students’ academic self concept and self efficacy toward English speaking ability. That result is two independent variables just 10,8241% contribut in English speaking ability. Althought it is lower but it has a positive level.
