The Effectiveness of TikTok as a Media for Learning Vocabulary at MTsN 5 Kediri Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri, Advisor: (I) Drs. Agus Edi Winarto, MPd. And (II) Dr. Irma Khoirot Daulay, M.Hum Keyword; Learning Vocabulary, Media, TikTok. This research is about the effectiveness of TikTok as a media for learning vocabulary at MTsN 5 Kediri. TikTok is one of the audio-visual learning media contains short videos with various filters and well-known music. By using this media, students can discover a new method of learning vocabulary. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether the use of TikTok is effective or not as media for learning vocabulary, especially in eight grade students at MTsN 5 Kediri The design of this study is a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental class and control class. The researcher used TikTok in experimental class and in control class used Powerpoint to teach the students on vocabulary. The participants of this study were 64 students from two classes. VIII-A as the experimental class consists 32 of students and VIIIB as the control class consists 32 of students from MTsN 5 Kediri. The data collecting by using test, including pretest and postest. The outcomes of the pretest and posttest data were analyzed using ANCOVA with SPSS program. The result of pre-test, the meana score of experimental class is 66.26 while the mean score of control class is 58.62. In the post-test, the mean score of experimental class is 68.40 while the mean score of control class is 61.75. Then, the result of the statistical computation of ANCOVA reveals that the result is significant at p (0.000) < α (0.05). Since the significant value is lower than 0.05, statically there is enough evidence to reject null hypothesis, then the alternative hypothesis is received. It means that teaching vocabulary by using TikTok is effective.
