Abstract
Putri, Fiara Dwi Rahma. 2024. “The Effectiveness of Youtube Video with Caption to Teach Listening Comprehension Skill at MTsN 1 Nganjuk”. A thesis. Department of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute of Kediri, Advisors: (1) Dr. Toyyibah, S.S., M.Pd and (2) Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd Keyword: YouTube video, caption, teaching listening, listening comprehension skill. Nowadays, many scopes in society, especially the scope of education, use YouTube as a tool in assisting many tasks. A wide variety of authentic and non-authentic learning materials are provided by YouTube to be used in the learning process by teachers and students. Captions contain cognitive processes, which allow the listener to be able to describe the auditory information of the foreign language in a video. Many studies have studied the effect of captions in a video is very useful in the listening process of students. Thus, this research aims to find whether the students who are taught by using YouTube video with caption have better listening comprehension skills than those who are taught by using YouTube video without caption. The research uses Quasi Experimental method, with the design of Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The samples in this research are students from VIII-B and VIII-E class of MTsN 1 Nganjuk, in academic year 2023/2024. The samples are used as experimental and control class who received the different treatments. The instruments of this research is pre-test that given to both class before giving a treatment, and post-test that given to them after the researcher giving a treatment. After conducting some activities to collect the data, the researcher found that the use of YouTube video with caption in teaching listening effects students’ listening comprehension skill at MTsN 1 Nganjuk. It showed from the result of mean pre-test and post-test in the experimental class, also the result of One Way ANCOVA. The mean score of pre-test is 62.67I, and the mean score of the post-test is 82.4. The result of significance value in ANCOVA is 0.007 < 0.05, which means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. From those result, it can be concluded that the use of YouTube video with caption effects students’ listening comprehension skill.
