Abstract
ABSTRACT Sa’adah, Siti Lailatus. 2024. “Improving Students’ Speaking Ability through Guessing Game for Ninth Grade of MTs Nurul Islam Kediri”. A thesis. Department of English Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute of Kediri, Advisors: (1) Dr. Ary Setya Budhi Ningrum, M.Pd and (2) Ossa Bodhi Tala Sumanto, M.A. Keywords: Guessing Game, Speaking, Students’ Speaking Ability, Improving Speaking Ability. Guessing game is one of the learning methods that can be applied in students’ speaking classes. This method can also make students feel more enjoy and fun when learning a language, because here they will play while learning with their friends. This research aims to find out whether guessing games can improve students' speaking abilities of ninth grade at MTs Nurul Islam Kediri in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses class action research design (CAR), where there are 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of 2 learning meetings. The subjects of this research were 29 students in class 9-B at MTs Nurul Islam Kediri in the 2023/2024 Academic year. Furthermore, the instrument in this research uses a speaking test as a tool to measure students' abilities, both initial abilities and abilities after applying the guessing game. The results can be said to be successful because they have exceeded the success criteria in this research. Where the success criteria for this research are: 1) The average score of students in the class after applying the guessing game method must reach 80. 2) The percentage of students who score more than a minimum KKM of 75 must reach 85% of students in the class. In this research, the final average score in cycle 2 reached 83.20, it showed more than 80. Then the percentage of completeness of students who scored more than a Minimum Competency Standards (KKM) reached 97% of students in cycle 2, this also means showing more than the success criteria, namely 90%.
