Abstract
Writing is the basic foundation of education and a prerequisite skill for all academic disciplines. Unfortunately, the learners‘ still have difficulties in writing, such as the problems of language, cognitive and content . Self-assessment guide that has been taught to students are encouraged to evaluate their writing performances in the self-assessment by their ownself, and the findings are utilized to inform significant evaluation regarding their future asignment in english writing. As a result, learners reveal their own shortcomings and consider the procedures they employed to finish the writing assignments as a guide function on their performance, because of that the researcher is interested in conduct a study about this in MAN 5 KEDIRI.The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of using self-assessment guide in student‘s learning writing skill, whether the students who are taught by using self-assessment guide have better writing skill than the students who are taught by using flipped classroom. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study is the eleventh grade students‘ of MAN 5 KEDIRI. XI MIPA 1 served as the experimental group in this lesson, while XI MIPA 2 served as the control group for the sample. Each group consist of 35 students. This study used a pre-test to find out how well students write explanation texts before they get treatment. The post-test is given at the last meeting after the treatment has been given. The researcher did 5 meetings in both group, a meeting for pretest, 3 meetings for treatment and a meeting for posttest. Then, the researcher analyzes and compares the data. The data are analyzed and compared using ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) in SPSS ver.20.00 for Windows. Based on the mean of pre-test score of experimental class was 76.71 and the post-test was 79.64 while the mean of pre-test score of control class was 77.01 and in the post- test was 79.25. From the data analysis using ANCOVA the result of significant value is .044 which is lower than 0.05. Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. It means that there is significant difference in writing skill between students who are taught by using self-assessment guide and students who are taught by using flipped classroom. From the study above it can be concluded that Self-Assessment Guide method was effective to use in learning writing skill on explanation text at MAN 5 KEDIRI.
