Abstract

Reading is a crucial language ability that promotes literacy and helps students understand, interact with, and analyze a variety of text types in order to build their knowledge and abilities also helpful for understanding all of the information in the reading text, which will help the reader gain knowledge for the future. The purpose of this research is to know whether the application of Discovery Learning is Effective on Students’ Reading Comprehension in Narrative Text at MTsN 3 Nganjuk. This research methodology uses a quasi-experimental design. The population in this research are students of class IX MTsN 3 Nganjuk. The sample is taken from two classess, one class as the control class is IX-E and IX-A as experimental class. Each class consist of 30 students. In collecting the data, the researcher use the instrument in pre-test and post-test. After giving the post-test, the researcher analyze and calculate the validity test, reliability tets, normality test, homogeneity test and independent test using SPSS 26.0. After analyzing the data, the experimental class's mean score in pre-test is 58,33 while the control class's pre-test mean score was 50,33. After giving treatment, the experimental class's mean score is 76,33 while the control class's mean score is 59,67. It indicates that there is a significant difference between the two classes' posttest results. Analysis t-test result reveals that sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000, less than 0.05, indicating that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that discovery learning method is effective on students’ reading Comprehension in narrative text.
