Abstract

Animation video is a medium that can be applied in teaching reading comprehension to high school students. One of them is in learning reading comprehension of narrative texts. The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of animated video in teaching reading comprehension for the tenth grade students of MAN 2 Kediri. Animated videos can be used as learning media in English teaching materials. This media can help students to focus more and more easily accept the material by the learning objectives. The use of animated video in the learning process can be equated, students can see and hear through the same video and receive the same information. This animated video can also save time and effort, in english teaching materials, especially reading comprehension. The teacher does not need to prepare concrete objects because this animated video is a medium for distributing learning material. This research used Quasi-experimental study. It involved 70 students of tenth grade students of MAN 2 Kediri in the first semester of academic 2023/2024. The classes were divided into two groups: X-E 2 as the experimental group and X-D as the control group. In the research, the students of X-E were taught by using Animated Video focused on narrative text, while X-D were taught by using English printed book from kemendikbud focused on narrative text. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data. The data was analyzed by using ANCOVA in SPSS 27. The result showed that mean pre-test in experimental class was 62.29 and the mean of control class was 60.63. Besides, the mean of post-test in experimental class was 88.00 and the mean score of control class was 80.57. The result of ANCOVA showed that the significant value is .008 (p<α 0.05). It can be concluded that using animated video is effective in teaching reading comprehension for the tenth-grade students of MAN 2 Kediri, because the use of animated video in teaching and learning was interest for student and enjoyable learning experience.
