Abstract

The objective of the research was to develop Islamic based narrative texts for Islamic senior high schools students in Malang. This was a Research and Development (R & D) proposed by Borg and Gall. The researcher modified the model according to the needs of the research purpose by small scale, and to meet a gap that cannot be fulfilled by Borg and Gall’s model. The adapted models for developing Islamic narrative texts consist of seven steps. They are: 1) Need Analysis, 2) Developing Preliminary Form of Product, 3) Expert Validation, 4) Revision 1, 5) Field Testing, 6) Revision 2, and 7) Final Product. The subjects of the research are 100 ten grade students of MA AL-ITTIHAD Belung Poncokusumo Malang. The data of this study were in the form of quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were obtained from questionnaires. The qualitative data were obtained from the comments, suggestions, corrections of the product from English teacher and expert content. The product of the research is some Islamic narrative texts for Islamic senior high schools. Based on the students’ need analysis and interview to the teacher, the researcher got the data that 83,13% of students strongly agree and the teacher gave good respond if Islamic Narrative texts as a teaching material. In this research, English teacher and validator were involved in order to validate of the product. There were eight aspects that they validated of the product: The content, language use, organization, vocabulary, mechanics, character building, moral messages and exercises. Therefore, the result of experts’ content validation is 81,6% , 91% of English teacher and 81,54% of the result of try out material. Indicated that the Islamic narrative text which consists of the texts about Prophet, Islamic moral value, character education and exercises got good respond as teaching material in narrative texts learning and it was best fit for Islamic Senior High School students.
