Abstract

In language education, the relationship between language and culture in the foreign language classroom has been the focus of many investigations. Realize the importance of English, government decided to make English as a subject in the school. In Indonesia Itself, textbook is one of learning sources that use by the teacher in the teaching learning process in class. Now day, textbook is more important to learn because in new curriculum of our country force the student to learn more individually. So, we need to get a great book that easier student comprehension the materials. 2013 curriculum is a new curriculum that replace and redesign curriculum before. This research want to know the influence of using 2013 curriculum in learning cultural knowledge for the students. The purpose of this research is to know what is the dominant culture that fulfillment on the textbook for elevent grade students. The kinds of cultural content on the textbook appear in the three types of cultural content. They are source culture, target culture and internaional culture. The textbook presents mostly the source culture (Indonesian Culture) in comparison target culture and international culture. This ratio is quiet ideal because English textbook in Indonesia still explain and empashize to show the source culture (Indonesian culture). Its aimed to focusing more on local cotent while introducing the sudents to the target culture and international culture. Furthermore, the three types of cultural content are presented in the form of cultural information, such as informative text, text representing foreign attitude, dialogues about daily life, contextual writing tasks, idioms and collocations, realia text and visual illustrations or sound recordings. types of cultural information do not adequately introduce culture in another explicit ways.
