Abstract

Speaking is one of the important skills that have to be mastered by the students. It is an interactive process to build up and develop the meaning, and it is a process of producing, receiving and processing information. The previous observer found some problems about speaking skill in senior high school. The problems were caused by some methods that were not appropriate in teaching speaking. In improving students’ speaking skills of senior high school, it should use appropriate method. The aim of this study is to investigate whether oral corrective feedback is effective in teaching speaking of the students of SMKN 1 Ngasem. The research design of this study was quasi experimental research. The population of this study was tenth grade students of SMKN 1 Ngasem in academic year of 2018-2019. The sample of this study took two classes that have the same population that consist of 32 students for research. The researcher conducted this research by giving oral corrective feedback after the students spoke in the class one by one or in conversation. The result of this study has shown that the data was normally distributed. It was proved by Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test, shows that (0.865) > α (0.05). Then, the Levene’s test result showed that between experimental and control group have the same ability, it can be seen from the result calculation that shows (0.147) > α (0.05). There is also no interaction between covariate and independent variable, as evidence by (0.927) > α (0.05). The relationship is significant, p (0.001) < (0.05). It means that there is relationship between the covariate and the dependent variable. Then, the result of statistical computation using ANCOVA, shows that the result is significant p (0.000) < α (0.05). It means that there is enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis, because the significant value < 0.05 and then the alternative hypothesis is received. Based on the data above, it can be concluded that oral corrective feedback is effective to improve students’ speaking skill.
