Keywords: vocabulary, teaching strategy, English vocabulary. Vocabulary is defined as a collection of all words understood by a person or all words that are likely to be used by that person to construct new sentences. Vocabulary is an important thing that must be learned and paid attention to. Therefore, the teacher must have a good strategy in teaching vocabulary. The teacher’s strategy also greatly determines student understanding. Therefore, the teacher must have a good strategy so that students can understand their vocabulary. The problem in this study is what strategies are used by English teachers in junior high schools at SMPN 2 Kunjang. This study aims to describe the strategies used by teachers in teaching vocabulary in junior high schools. This type of research is qualitative research. The research subjects were two English teachers. The key instrument in this research is the researcher himself. Data collection techniques chosen by researchers are observation, and interviews. The data analysis technique was carried out by referring to Sugiyono, namely data reduction, data display, and drawing a conclusion. Based on the research findings, the teachers’ strategies teaching English vocabulary, the strategies that teachers often used in the teaching vocabulary at SMPN 2 Kunjang used by teachers The strategies are presentation strategies and cooperative learning strategies. Teachers has different application in using various strategies because each teacher teaches different class, students’ ability and class condition.
