Abstract

The application of language program in a high school more often involves the teaching and learning process of two foreign languages, this is known as a bilingual class. It is different with this research thesis which describe the foreign language classes teaching and learning process implemented in a high school. One of the educational institutions that implements foreign language classes is SMA Nurul Jadid Probolinggo. This research is conducted to describe the foreign languages teaching and learning process of SMA Nurul Jadid Probolinggo. The three foreign language clasess in this research are English, Chinese, and Japanese clasess. This school has the successful implemented the teaching of these three languages. This research aims to find out the planning, the strategy, and the evaluation which are applied by the teacher, and the factors that support and hinder the student in foreign language classes in SMA Nurul Jadid Probolinggo. This research uses the basic design of qualitative research. Interview guide, observation guide, and documentation become the instruments in this research. The participant of the reseach is English, Chinese, and Japanese teachers and students in language and culture program. The result of this resarch includes the components of teaching learning process and the factors that support and hinder student in teaching learning process. The components of teaching learning process includes the planning, the strategy, and evaluation. In this school, the components of teaching learning process are same with other senior high school, but one point which makes this school different with other school is the delivery ways of foreign language teachers in the teaching learning process. Teachers use various strategy and techniques which called by role-playing, various gaming, and demonstration in the process to make this situation effective, and not monotonous. Moreover, this research also describes the various factors that support and hinder students in the foreign language classes such us high student motivation, student competence, teacher’s roles, school environment, and student's lack of focus on three foreign languages.
