Abstract

Speaking is one of skills that is important because in speaking students can experess their idea and also communicate with others. This study is conducted to know how to improve speaking skill of second grade students at MTs Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan using miming method. The class consists of 23 students. Miming method is the teatherical technique of express an idea or mood or portraying character by gesture and body movement without using the word. Type of this research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR). Action research is a study conducted by a person who works on what he carried out without changing the system implementation. Action research is a form of research conducted by teachers to solve problems encountered in carrying out its core functions, namely managing teaching and learning activities. The location of the study conducted at this research, the researcher chooses MTs Ihyaul Ulum Lamongan as the location of the research. It is located atJalan KH. Hasyim Asy”ari N0. 2 Manyar, Sekaran, Lamongan. The objective of the research is to know how miming method can improve speaking skills the students of MTs Ihyaul Ulum Lamonganof second year students. The instrument used for measuring the achievement was a test. The researcher administered two kinds of test; the first is preliminary test and test. Preliminary est was held before he implementation of miming method, while test was on cycle I and cycle II. The result of this research shows that there is a positive result on the improvement of the students’ speaking ability. The mimingis proven to improve the ability of speaking and students’ achievement in speaking, from which researchers obtain quantitative data, the level ofability to speak a miming method on the cycle I and cycle II. In cycle I gets 66,26 or approximatelly 39,16%. In cycle II gets 76,70 or approximately78,26% of the the total number of the students got succesfully test score.
