Abstract

Writing is the spiritual task of inventing ideas, thinking of the easiest way to make them accurate, and organizing them into statements and paragraphs that are easy for the reader to understand. Students have difficulty writing narrative texts because students spend a lot of time thinking and planning ideas before they start writing; students have problems with spelling and Grammar; students write quickly to get the job done without resistant to going through the stages of process writing. In this study, the researcher find that animated video can be used to expressing students’ ideas, grammatical, and vocabulary to create a text. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of animated video to teach writing for EFL learners of students are taught by using animated video of SMA Negeri 1 Plosoklaten. The design of this study is a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental group and control group. The researcher used animated video in experimental group and in control group used pictures series to teach the students on writing narrative text. The participants of this study were 71 students from two classes. X-IPA 2 as the experimental group consists 35 of students and X-IPA 3 as the control group consists 36 of students from SMA Negeri 1 Plosoklaten. The data as collecting by using test, including pretest and posttest of writing. The outcomes of the pretest and posttest data were analyzed using ANCOVA with SPSS program. The result of this study was calculated by using ANCOVA, that there was a significant difference between experimental group and control group it can be seen from mean score of experimental group was 81.74 and the mean of control group was 79.56. The calculated showed the result of the mean scores of students in the experimental class who were taught by using animated video got higher scores than the scores of students in the control class who were taught by using pictures series. The result indicated that the significant value is 0.002 smaller than 0.05 it means that the null of hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted. This animated video as media to teach writing ability on narrative text is effective.
