Abstract

This research investigated the perceptions of English Department students on using online learning in intensive course class. This research generally answered one question; it is what the perceptions of English Department students on using online learning in intensive course class. The research design of this research is quantitative and the type is survey research. The data was collected through a questionnaire applied on Google form and shared by Google form link through WhatsApp group. There were 168 students as the population and 48 students are the respondents. The data of the responses presented using infographics and explained descriptively in order to reveal the students' perception comprehensively. The research findings divided into three categories. The first category is about students’ behavior in using online learning in Intensive Course. The result showed that students’ behavior on using online learning had positive responses. They agreed if using online learning in Intensive Course made them have more time to explore learning source, motivated, independent in learning and confidence, 39.6% students neither agreed nor disagreed that online learning made learning more enjoyable, 45.8% neither agreed nor disagreed that online learning made them discipline, and most of the students said that online learning improved their interactions with friends and teacher. The second category was about online learning operational. The result showed that the internet connection was a problem for the students, most of students can access the material and have the time to access it, the language in the course outline still didn’t make students confused, 50% agreed if the instruction of the lecture was easy to understand and 39.6% respondents neither agreed nor disagreed, and there were 47.9% respondents neither agree nor disagree that online learning eased their interaction with friends and teacher but also, there were 37.5% students agree with that. The last category is about the students’ perceptions when practicing online learning in Intensive Course. The result showed that they enjoyed and comfortable doing the task by the online learning, they understand the materials that has been taught through online learning, the students like using online learning, the students agreed that Sharing Applications (Google Classroom/Whatsapp Group), Virtual online learning (Zoom/Skype/Google meet) and Streaming audio (pre-recorder lecture) were useful tools for learning on intensive course class. And on the second last statements showed, that students prefered Sharing Applications (Google Classroom / Whatsapp Group) on learning in intensive course classes rather than using virtual online learning using (Zoom / Skype / Google Meet) on learning in intensive course classes.
