Abstract

Language is used for communication to convey one’s intentions to each other in social interactions.The research was conducted to analysis on the types of politeness strategy used by the teacher in classroom interaction based on Brown and Levinson theory.The aims of this study were to describe the types of politeness strategy employed by the teacher in English Lesson and to discuss the most frequent politeness strategy employed by the teacher in English Lesson. The design of this study was qualitative descriptive methods. The participants of this study were two English Lesson teacher and two class eleven grade students from MAN 1 Kota Kediri. Data collecting prosedure,the researcher used record the video of teaching and learning process from the begining until the end of the class.The video record of teaching and learning process will be selected and classified into four strategies in doing FTA based on Brown and Levinson theory.The used in the study were two English Lesson teachers in two class English Lesson of MAN 1 Kota Kediri The result showed that in the English Lesson the teacher employed three types of politeness strategy : Positive politeness,Negative Politeness and Bald on reccord.The most frequent of politeness strategy employed by the teacher in English lesson is positive politeness strategy with 13 utterance.
