Abstract

Reading is one of the basic skills that people use in everyday activity, it begins with seeing a written form of something and then process the meaning from it. Reading skill is important for communication to gain information. The research question of this research is “Is there any significant difference of the students’ reading skill between those students who are taught by using sticky notes and those students who are taught by using cloze procedure?”. Furthermore, in order to answer research question, the aim of this study is to find out the significant difference of the students’ reading skill between those students who are taught by using sticky notes and those students who are taught by using cloze procedure. The researcher uses quasi-experimental research design. The researcher take the population of eight grade students of MTsN 2 Nganjuk and the sample are from two classes of eight grade. VIII 2 class consists of 31 students as the experimental group and VIII 1 class consists of 29 students as a control group. The experimental group was taught reading skill by using sticky notes and the control group was taught by using cloze procedure. Pre-test and post-test were applied to both experimental and control group to collect the data. After give a post-test, the researcher continues to analyze the data using SPSS 16.0. The result of this research reveal that the significant value of the hypothesis testing is 0.94 which is higher than 0.05 (.000>.05). It shows that the null hypothesis is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, sticky notes is not effective in teaching reading skill. Even though there is no significant difference of the students’ reading skill between the students who are taught by using Sticky Notes and the students who are taught by using Cloze Procedure, there is still an increasing score of the students from pretest to post test in the experimental group.
