ABSTRACT Faizah, Fadhilah N. 2023. Improving Students’ Achievement in Speaking by Using Socio-affective Strategy at MTsN 3 Blitar. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisor: (1) Nurul Aini, M.Pd (2) Dr. Ary Setya Budhi Ningrum, M.Pd Keywords: Improving, Students’ Achievement, Socio-affective Strategy Speaking is specific and describes thoughts and feelings in spoken language. But many students are uncertain and no longer confident when they speak English. Problems in English speaking class can be overcome by applying strategies that can solve these problems. One of them is by applying a SocioAffective strategy. The objective of this study is to know how Socio-Affective strategy can improve students’ achievement in speaking at MTsN 3 Blitar class 9th grade. This research uses Classroom Action Research which is carried out in one cycle consisting of four meetings. The cycle consists of preliminary research, planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research was class 9G students at MTsN 3 Blitar consisting of 34 students. Data collection in this research used observation and test. The tests were test for preliminary and cycle 1 test. Then cycle 1 test score analyzed the data based on the criteria of success. In the finding and discussion explained that in the test for preliminary, there were 5 students out of 34 students who had a minimum score and the percentage score showed 15%. Next the researcher applied socio-affective strategy in one cycle consisting of four meetings. Then a cycle 1 test was held, the results showed 29 students out of 34 students reached the minimum score and showed 85% which has reached the student success criteria (70%). It shows that the use of socio-affective strategy can improve students' achievement in speaking 9 th grade students at MTsN 3 Blitar.
