Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the student’s speaking skill in the classroom presentation, comprising (1) the student’s speaking skill in the classroom presentation (2) the techniques that the students use in their presentation. The study use descriptive qualitative method because it is used to know and describe the student’s speaking skill in the classroom presentation and the techniques that the students use in their presentation. the subjects of this study are the fourth semester students of speaking class of STAIN Kediri. The instruments used are observation, digital camera, questionnaire, and interview. The observation is done during the process teaching and learning, the digital camera is used to record during the students presentation, the questionnaire is given after presentation, and the interview is given after questionnaire in free time. The result of study shows that the students’ average score is 60,72. Based on the level of mastery that the students’ speaking skill in the classroom presentation is low. There are some factors that influence the students’ speaking skill in the classroom presentation. They are: the students are not confident before presentation, the students do not practice, the students the students just memorize the material, overview of the students feels nervous before presentation, the students less of confident that their presentation is successful. The techniques that the students use in their presentation are the composite of the first and second techniques. They are: (1) use quotations to strenghten the delivery of presentation (2) mastery the material of presentation, mastery the studentselves and mastery the audience. (3) the delivering of the material (4) use non-verbal language appropriately : speech articulation, variation in tempo, tone and volume, facial expressions, body language, posture (5) using appropriate body language (6) give questions in their presentation. In this item there are two points that the students use. They give questions that stimulate the interaction of audience, look at the silent audience (7) show the facts to support the topic of presentation (8) invite the audience to act immediately, (9) make a conclusion in a closing sentence. The writer gives suggestion to the students and the other reseacher. To the students, the writer’s suggestion are the students should prepare all of thing that are needed in the presentation and do more practice. To the other researcher, the writer’s suggestion the result of this study could be used as an additional reference when they want to do analize in another form of presentation. not only for a mubaligh. It could conduct the research in another forms as news reader, tour guide, etc.
