Abstract

Department of English Language Education. Faculty of Tarbiyah. State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Advisor: (I)Dr. Ary Setya Budhi Ningrum, M.Pd, and (II)Fitriatul Masitoh, S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: Comparative Study, Reading Achievement, Gender This research analyzes the comparison of English reading achievement between male and female senior high school students. The objectives of this research are to find out the reading achievement of male and female students on reading text and to find out whether there is or is not a significant difference between male and female students’ reading achievement. The researcher is conducting in SMAN 6 Kediri. This research is descriptive quantitative and employing comparative method. The subject of this research was students of tenth grade of SMAN 6 Kediri using quota sampling with sixty participants; thirty male students and thirty female students. The researcher used narrative text for a reading test, 19 multiple choices items, as the instrument of this research. To analysis the data, the students’ reading scores of the two samples were compared using an independent sample t-test to find out the significant value. The result from calculated score is 0,086. It means 0,05 < 0,086. The result of the independent sample t-test value is bigger than the basic decision value. Therefore alternative hypothesis is rejected and null hypothesis is accepted. There is no significant difference between male and female students’ in reading achievement.
