Abstract

Speaking is one of the productive skills. Speaking is the act of orally expressing the ideas and feelings as well as transferring information. Speaking English still becomes a burden for most Indonesian students. Since it remains the most difficult skill to master, many students have to facilitate themselves by any media to get fluency in speaking English. With the presence of technology, students can get any media to improve their English-speaking easily. Technology has significantly aided education in recent years. Both teachers and students are required to pursue the improvement of technology usage in education. However, it is probable that some schools still have not employed technology as learning media. Then, the improvement of technology-based learning media is needed. This study aims to develop a digital audiobook for assisting students in speaking English. The subjects of this study were second-graders of MTs Sunan Gunung Jati. The design of this study was RnD by using ADDIE model by Branch (2009), with several adjustments for research needs. The research stages carried out were Analysis, Designing, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation with the common procedures. To finish those stages, observation, interview, and questionnaire are the tools used in this study. Based on the five stages that had been done, the final results showed that the product developed was in accordance with the students’ needs. The results of experts’ validation showed that the product developed is useful and ready to be used by both students and teachers, with an average percentage of the validation results of 88.9% with good criteria. Most of the subjects also gave good feedback for the product developed, with an average percentage 0% is for strongly disagree, 4% is for disagree, 69% is for agree, and 27% is for strongly agree. With those results, this product is expected can be used by students as supplementary media in improving their speaking fluency.
