Abstract

State Islamic Institute of Kediri (IAIN) Kediri. Advisor (I) Dra. Nurul Ain, M.Pd. (II) Muhammad Afifi, S.Hum, M.Pd. Keywords: main characters, novel analysis, plot analysis. This study was conducted to discover the contribution main character to the plot of Love from A to Z novel, and the structure of the plot built into the story. Henry James’s theory becomes the basic concept of the contribution main character built to the plot of the story. This study is analyzed by using a descriptive qualitative method. This study examines the novel "Love from A to Z" by S.K. Ali, focusing on the main characters, Zayneb Malik and Adam Chen, and the intricacies of the plot. Through thorough analysis, the researcher explores the character traits and development of Zayneb and Adam, as well as the themes of love, friendship, identity, and social justice portrayed in the novel. The study also highlights the well-constructed plot, characterized by tension, emotional engagement, and thematic exploration. Utilizing a dramatic or chronological plot structure, the narrative unfolds with an exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and denouement. Ultimately, this research underscores the novel's success in creating compelling characters and a captivating storyline that resonates with readers. The result of the analysis demonstrates that the novel "Love from A to Z" by S.K. Ali effectively incorporates both a well-constructed plot and compelling main characters. The plot revolves around the budding romance between Zayneb Malik and Adam Chen, with various subplots and conflicts that contribute to the narrative tension and development. The main characters are complex and multi-dimensional, with relatable qualities and personal struggles that drive the story forward. Zayneb's determination, resilience, and passion for justice, as well as Adam's altruism, intelligence, and self-discovery, add depth and authenticity to the narrative. The plot and characters align with Henry James' principles of effective storytelling, creating a captivating reading experience that explores themes of love, friendship, identity, and social justice. Overall, the novel successfully balances plot and character, providing readers with a thought-provoking and emotionally engaging literary work.
