The Effectiveness of CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) on Students’ Reading Comprehension at MA Sunan Ampel Pare, English Department, Faculty of Education, IAIN Kediri, Advisor: 1) Erna Nurkhalida, M.Pd 2) Ria Fachrurriana, M.Pd. Key Words: effectiveness, reading skill, CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) The teaching of English as foreign language for Indonesian students takes rather different from the teaching of Indonesian language as a mother tongue. It is because the students to some extent have had special concept of their native language and that is very different from the English. This research was conducted to know the effectiveness of CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) on students reading comprehension skills. The researcher uses CIRC to discover an effective way to develop reading skill. The researcher found, based on the preliminary study that most students feel difficult to analyze in an English text. The design of this study was quasi experimental which the researcher conducted within 3 weeks started at 4th February 2020 up to 26th February 2020. The subject of this study was the tenth grade students of MA Sunan Ampel Pare, academic year 2019/2020, and consists of 60 students from the experimental and control class. To collect the data the researcher use test as an instrument. Since the presents study employed a quasi-experimental research with non- randomized control group pre-test posttest design, the students’ reading skill prior to the treatment should be involved in the analysis. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) is a procedure by which statistical are made to dependent variable. These assessments are based on the correlation between dependent variable and another variable, called the covariate The result of recount value 0.000 that is lower than 0.05. So the researcher have enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis. Because when the null hypothesis. Because when the p value (sig) < ɑ (5% or 0,05), it means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So CIRC is effective in teaching reading skill, therefore CIRC is suggested to be used by the researcher.
