Firdaus, Ilham Esa.2022. The Effectiveness of Checklist Based Peer Correction On The Ability of Students of MTsN 8 Kediri in Writing Recount Text. Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri, Advisor: (I) Prof. Dr. Mukhammad Abdullah, M.Ag. And (II) Muhammad Afifi, S.Hum., M.Pd. Keyword; Checklist Based Peer Correction, Teaching Writing, Writing Skill. Writing is one of the most important skills in learning a foreign language, especially English. It is also one of the productive skills which involves communicating a message in the form of letter and symbols. Writing is a communication tool in written form. This skill is important part of conveying thoughts, ideas, and organizing sentences or paragraph. One of technique in giving correction that can be used to check the correct of writing is checklist based peer correction. The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of the use of checklist based peer correction in teaching writing for the eighth grade students of MTsN 8 Kediri. The design of this research was quasi-experimental. The population was the students of class VIII in MTsN 8 Kediri. The samples were two classes VIII-D and VIII-B. The experimental group was class VIII-D that consists of 30 students, meanwhile the control group was class VIII-B that consists of 30 students. The researcher used tests as the instrument of the research. In analyzing data, the researcher used Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) by SPSS Program 25.0 version. The result of this research showed that the data was normally distributed. It was proven by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test that the significant value (p) of tests were 0.136 for pre-test of the experimental group, 0.154 for pre-test of the control group, 0.141 for post-test of the experimental group, and 0.135 for post-test of the control group. (p > α 0.05). The homogeneity variances test the data was homogeneous (0.647 > 0.05 for the pre-test and 0.926 > 0.05 for the post-test), The homogeneity regression (Slope) showed that (p) was 0.976 (p>α 0.05). Then, the result of ANCOVA showed (p) was 0.000 (p < α 0.05). It was enough evidence to reject H0 and accept Ha. Based on the finding, the researcher concluded that checklist based peer correction is effective for teaching writing.
