Abstract

ABSTRACT Tsaqifatuzziyyan, 2022. “Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery Using Cake Application for Eighth Grade Students of Mts Daarul Mustaqiem Bogor. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, IAIN Kediri. Advisor: (1) Erna Nurkholida, M. Pd and (2) Mohammad Muhyidin, M. Pd. Keywords: Improving, Vocabulary, Cake Application, Junior High School. In mastering English, the first thing to note is vocabulary mastery. Currently, there are still many schools in Indonesia that underestimate vocabulary mastery in English learning activities. Besides, many people use technology to learn. However, many students have not been able to utilize technology to learn optimally. Based on these reasons, researcher conducted research on students to improve vocabulary mastery through the Cake application that can be installed on smartphones. The researcher used classroom action research, which is divided into two cycles with two meetings each. Each cycle consists of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The students in class 8.3 in the academic year 2021/2022 were the focus of this study. In order to gather data, the researcher used test and observation. Additionally, in order to analyze the data, the researcher used both qualitative and quantitative data, with the qualitative data coming from observation and the quantitative data coming from evaluation. The finding of the research shows that 75% students got 71 scores, it means that the finding fulfilled the criteria of success. The average Test 1 score was 53,35, the average Test 2 score was 62,75, and the average Test 3 score from cycle 2 was 76,4 as a result of the data from cycle 1. The classroom's condition was improving. In a learning activity, the students paid close attention to the teachers’ explanation. Students are more engaged in their learning. Students will be able to learn and apply new vocabulary. It implies that Cake Application can improve the eighth-grade students of MTs Daarul Musatqiem.
