Abstract
This thesis has the goal at analyzing the interrogative sentences in ‘Sherlock Holmes: His Last Vow’ which shows the type and the pattern based on the syntactical analysis of Marjolijn and Kim’s theory. The researcher is focused to analyze on interrogative sentences that are used by the characters in that English movie subtitle. There are two problems to be solved in this study. They are: (1) what are the types of interrogative sentence in the ‘Sherlock Holmes: His Last Vow’ movie subtitle; (2) what are the patterns of interrogative sentence types in the ‘Sherlock Holmes: His Last Vow’ movie subtitle. The researcher use a descriptive qualitative method by analyzing data. The results of this research were as follows. First, from all types of interrogative sentences, the researcher found that the characters used by using Marjolijn and Kim Theory. They are complete yes or no interrogative sentences, complete WH interrogative sentences, complete negative interrogative sentences, and addition form the researcher that is incomplete interrogative sentences. The incomplete interrogative sentences are the most interrogative sentences type used in ‘Sherlock Holmes: His Last Vow’ movie subtitle. Second, the characters used all kinds of patterns (the running pattern, the being pattern, the giving pattern, the doing pattern, the making/considering pattern, and the incomplete pattern as the addition from the researcher). The characters mostly use the doing pattern interrogative sentence to ask about the thing to know.
