Abstract

Writing is one of the essential abilities that require peaceful, concentration, lot of energy and time spent even an expert writer. In addition, especially writing in a foreign language. Students have difficulty when starting to write because the teacher will give time for students to make drafts even though students do not understand the steps that must be done or they do not understand vocabulary, sentence structure and others. In this study, the researcher selected to use the Telegram application as a more effective medium of instruction in teaching writing and fun. There are some factors why using this application. Of the many android massager applications, Telegram has a uniqueness, namely in the feature to make a Telegram Bot. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using bot Telegram in teaching writing recount text. The design of this study is a quasi-experimental design consisting of an experimental group and control group. The researcher used bot Telegram in experimental group and in control group used Instagram to teach the students on writing recount text. The participants of this study were 72 students from two classes. X-MIA 2 as the experimental group consists 36 of students and X-MIA 3 as the control group consists 36 of students from SMA Negeri 4 Kediri. The data as collecting by using test, including pretest and posttest of writing.The outcomes of the pretest and posttest data were analyzed using ANCOVA with SPSS program. The result of this study was calculated by using ANCOVA, and showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. It can be seen from mean score of experimental groups was 72.63 and the mean of control group was 68.44. The calculated showed the result of the mean scores of students in the experimental class who were taught by using bot Telegram got higher scores than the scores of students in the control class who were taught by using Instagram. The result indicated that the significant value is 0.032, which is smaller than 0.05. It means that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted.Therefore, it can be concluded that the use bot Telegram as media to teach writing ability on recount text is effective.
