Abstract

Writing is one of the main skills in learning English. It can be more important aspect for English learner. Finding and developing ideas in writing might be difficult for many students. The aim of this study was to find out the effectiveness of Predicting Strategy with Webtoon in improving students’ writing ability. The design of this study was quantitative with quasi-experimental methods. The population of this research were the first grade students of SMAN 4 Kota Kediri. A total of 70 students were chosen as the sample. The sample of this research consists of two classes, there are class X-IIS 1 as experimental group and class X-IIS 2 as control group. The experimental group was taught by using Predicting Strategy with Webtoon and the control group was taught by Free Writing Strategy with Power Point. To collect the data pre-test and post test were applied to experimental group and control group. The result of the test was analyzed by using ANCOVA through SPSS 21.The results of this study showed that there is significant difference between Predicting Strategy with Webtoon and Free Writing Strategy with Power Point. It can be proven by in the pre-test the mean score of experimental class was 54.54 and control class was 52.94. In the post-test the mean score of experimental class was 83.2 and control class was 66.2. This was also supported by the calculation of ANCOVA through SPSS 21 program which showed that the significant value of the class is .027 which is lower than 0.05. It means that teaching writing using predicting strategy with webtoon is effective rather than free writing strategy with power point.
