Abstract

This research investigated the correlation between vocabulary mastery and translation ability based on gender differences at EFL classroom of translation practice’s courses. However, study about correlation between vocabulary mastery and translation ability based on gender differences is rare undertaking. The objectives of this research is to find out whether or not there is any significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their translation ability based on gender at translation course of IAIN Kediri. This research involved 92 students consisting of 11 male students and 81 female students. The analysis method used in this study was quantitative. In collecting the data, this research used two instruments, which were a test consisting of 25 questions multiple-choice vocabulary tests and 10 essay questions for a translation test. The finding is obtained in the Pearson Product Moments formula, if the significance value (sig.) is less than 0.05 then there is a relationship between the two variables. From the data, Ha accepted. It can be seen that the significance value of female students indicates 0.000, so it means that there is any significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and translation ability. On the other hand, the significance value of male students indicates 0.131, so it means that there is no significant correlation between vocabulary and translation ability. It can be conclude that female students outperformed their male counterparts in the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and translation ability. In other words, it can be stated that gender differences affect this research.
