Abstract
Many research studies have been done to identify ways to improve student’s listening comprehension. However, there are still a lot of confusions on how to suitably teach listening. Many theories suggest that the use of authentic videos necessary. The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of using video in teaching listening comprehension at SMA NU 3 Gresik. The research is classified as quasi experimental research. The sample of this study was 60 students of SMA NU 3 Gresik. They are students in class X IPA-1 as experimental group and X IPA-2 as control group. The data of this research were collected using pre-test and post-test. Pre-test is used to know the students listening mastery before getting treatments. Then, post-test is used to know the students listening mastery after getting treatments by using video. The data analyzed by using ANCOVA in SPSS 25.0 version for windows. The result showed the mean score of pre-test of the experimental class was 66,83 and for control class was 79,66. While, the result of the post-test showed that the mean score of the experimental class was 79,6 and the mean score of the control class was 81,5. The result of statistically computation of ANCOVA shows that the significance is 0,409 it higher than 0,05 (0,409 > 0,05). Based on the result, the study concluded that the Null Hypothesis (H0) was accepted while the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. There was not significant difference between the students’ who were taught using video and students who were taught using audio to enhance students’ listening comprehension at SMA NU 3 Gresik. In situation that reseacher find when listening activities, using video sometimes make the students too enjoy in watching the video, they are unconsciously forgot about the point that they should get from watching the video, another reason may because the researcher did not conducts the try out first before administering the pre-test and post-tests to assess construct validity and reliability of the reseach instrument.
