Abstract

UNESCO said that Indonesia ranks second from the bottom in terms of world literacy, meaning that reading interest is very low. This research is motivated by the low interest in reading in Indonesian society, especially for students who are still in school. Reading is the foundation on which all other important skills are built. Literacy is a person's ability to know information, especially in reading. Literacy culture is very important for the younger generation who need to gain as much knowledge as possible so that it can be widely used for the surrounding environment. The research problem in this research are how is the implementation of student activities in English Literacy and what are the problem by EFL students MTS Syekh Subakir 1 Nglegok in learning reading comprehension skills with English Literacy activities. The purpose of this research is to find out the experiences of EFL students in English Literacy Activities. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of the research concluded that MTS Syekh Subakir students carried out English Literacy activities through several stages, namely Pre reading, While Reading and Post Reading. In the Pre reading activity, the students are explained by the accompanying teacher about the title of the English text to be read. It aims to attract students' reading interest.In English Literacy activities. In the While reading stage, MTS Syekh Subakir students read aloud for each group, then answered written questions according to the reading text that had been distributed. In the post reading stage, MTS Syekh Subakir students will be given oral questions about the English text that has been read. It aims to strengthen students' memory and train students to think critically. Students in class 7B and 7C still have several problems in learning, namely vocabulary, pronunciation, and generic structure while following the stages in English literacy. Despite having difficulties, it is hoped that this activity can help students in learning English.
