Abstract
ABSTRACT Farkhan, Elya. 2022. An Analysis on Derivational Morphemes in Akeelah and The Bee Movie. A graduating paper. Department of English Language Education. Faculty of Tarbiyah. State Islamic Institute of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Bahruddin, S.S, M.Pd., (II) Dr. Toyyibah, S.S, M.Pd Keywords: Derivational Morphemes, Akeelah and The Bee, Prefix, Suffix. The purpose of this research is to find out the types of derivational morphemes that appear in the movie Akeelah and The Bee, to find out which type of derivational is more dominant, and the process of forming derivative words. This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive quality as the research design. The instrument is the knowledge of the researcher himself. The data source is the subtitle of Akeelah and The Bee movie. The data collection of this research is document analysis. To triangulate the results of this study, expert triangulation was carried out. The results of the study revealed that there were 2 types of derivational affixes, namely derivational prefixes and derivativeal suffixes. There were 115 words that have been attached by prefixes and suffixes, with a total of 241 repetitions. There were 9 prefixes found attached to 22 words. The prefixes were a-, dis-, in-, non-, pre-, poly-, re-, -out, and -un. As for suffixes, there were 21 suffixes attached to 93 words. The suffixes were -able, -acious, -al, -er, -ful, - hood, -ic, -ier, -ific, -ion, -ist , -ity, -ive, -ize, -ly, -ment , -ness, -ous, -ship, -tude, and -y. After calculating the mean and percentage of each affix, the results showed that the suffix was 80% more dominant than the 20% prefix. The most frequently encountered suffix is the -ly suffix, which has the function of changing an adjective into an adverb. Furthermore, the results of the study found that the process of forming derivative words can and cannot change the class of word.
