Keywoards : Politeness Strategies, Utterance, Talk show This research studies about an analysis of politeness strategy in Ellen Talk Show. This research aims to observe more about the use of politeness strategy by the host of the talk show and the guest star with the respon of them. This research was conducting from March 2022 until June 2022. This research used content analysis. The subject of this research were twelve guest star and a host of the Ellen Talk show. This research was conducted in twelve videos of the Elen talk show in the section inspiring people on seoson fiveteen. The data were collected from watching the videos continuedly, after that the researcher chose the utterance of the expression using politeness strategies and the last transcript the politeness utterance. The data were analyzed by using content analysis, there were watch video and writing the script. The data were classified based on Brown and Levinson’s classification of politeness strategy (1987). The research findings showed, politenes strategies used in the Ellen Talk Show 34 data have been identified as politeness strategies. Ellen used four politeness strategies as a host of the Talkshow and the guest star of the Talkshow. They are bald on-record in 5 utterances, positive politeness in 18 utterances, negative politeness in 9, and off-record in 1 utterance. Positive politeness was the most occurrence. Bald on-record include cases of non-minimization of the threat used in 3 times and. The second positive politeness has exaggerated (interest, approval, sympathy with H) used in 1 time, being optimistically used in 2 times, attending to hearer used in 3 times, including both S and H in the activity used in 1 time, and give a gift to H used in 1 time. The third negative politeness includes impersonalizing S and H used at one time and being conventionally indirect at one time. The last off the record assume to be used at one time. Thus the total data is 34 data politeness strategies that have been found on the Ellen Talk show. The second is politeness strategy exaggerate (interest, approval, sympathy with H) used two times, attend to hearer used four times and intensified to interest used three times. The third is negative politeness, including being pessimistic used 2 times, conventionally indirect used in 1 time, and hedging used 2 times. Based on the research finding, Bald on record includes cases of non-minimization of the threat used 15 times, and points of FTA-oriented do not use bald on record.
