Abstract
Linguistics is the science of language system of human communication. One of aspects of linguistics is morphology. Morphology is the study of words, where the subject of the study is how they are formed. The part of morphological analysis is derivational. Therefore, it is very important for the students to study about derivational affixes, so that they can increase their vocabulary. Fairy tale is the story that do not really happen. The writer analyzed the fairy tale entitled Jack and Beanstalk which is written by Jacobs Joseph. Focus of this research is 1) how is the process of word forming of derivational affixes in Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale by Joseph Jacobs, 2) what are the types of derivational affixes in Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale by Joseph Jacobs, 3) what is the meaning of derivational affixes in Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale by Joseph Jacobs. Descriptive qualitative is the method that used in this research. The object of this research is a fairy tale entitled Jack and Beanstalk by Jacobs Joseph. The technique for collecting the data are by finding the fairy tale, reading the fairy tale entirely, collecting the words which contain derivational affixes and the last is classifying the words into derivational affixes. The data analysis is done by observing the data which is available, classifying the data from the fairy tale based on derivational affixes, discussing and describing the types of derivational affixes, analyzing the word forming process, analyzing and describing the word meaning, and concluding the result of the research. To analyze the data, the researcher used theory from Yule, Katamba and Lieber. After the researcher analyzed the data, the result shows that in the Jack and Beanstalk fairy tale there are derivational that used. There are two types of derivational in the fairy tale, they are class-changging derivational and classmaintaining derivational. The class-changging derivational divided into noun derivation, verb derivation, adjective derivation, adjective derivation. The classmaintining divided into noun pattern and adjective pattern. There are two kinds of affixes in, they are suffix and prefix. There are 32 suffix and 3 prefix, those are - ion (3), -ly(17), -able (1), -y(3), -en (1), -ment (1), -ful (3), -ous (1), in- (2), ex- (1), al- (2).The prosess of the words forming that are often encountered in the fairy tale is due to the addition of suffixes. The meaning of words that are found in this research is words that have meaning “in what manner something is being done”. This research can be implicated in the teaching and learning process of morphology and could understanding on Derivational Affixes
