Abstract

This research is about a semiotic analysis in anti-corruption education module of KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) for university. This research aims to examine the sign meaning in anti-corruption education module of KPK for University. The study of semiotic, specifically images in this study, can be used in teaching aid to help students’ understanding of the lesson. In this study, module for anti-corruption education was analyzed since the issue of corruption eradication in Indonesia has always been the center of national attention. The research used a descriptive qualitative method to describe, explain, and analyze the meaning of signs using a semiotic theory by Charles Sanders Peirce as the analytical framework. The data was collected from four chapter of anticorruption education module of KPK for University by observation and documentation. This research was conducted in order to know the sign meaning of the pictures that are conveyed in anti-corruption education module of KPK especially in the use of Peirce’s triadic theory that are representamen, interpretant object including icon, index, symbol. The result showed the different sign meanings of the data. There is the same meaning in the datum 2 and the datum 7 that symbolize the bribery. The bribery is represented by the combination of signs. They are the money, envelope and the hands which are categorized as icon and symbol. The researcher concluded that in anti-corruption education module, KPK uses the picture to describe the topic in each chapter and to visualize the case of corruption, the campaign to fight against corruption or to educate society through its module. The implication for language education in second language learning and in first language learning is implementation of semiotic feature to assist foreign language teaching especially in the technique of vocabulary teaching non-verbal, visual communication, and cultural semiotic.
