Abstract
Characterization is an important factor in the novel, enlivens the atmosphere, and always accompanies the characters in the storyline. So that the reader can find out how the character brings a story through the characterization that is played. The purpose of this study is to find out how the characterizations of Amir before he feels very guilty to his servant Hassan. And to find out the reason why Amir regrets and feels very bad for Hassan. This research is descriptive qualitative, the data in this study is novel, for this study only requires two characters, and there are several supporting characters that are packaged very beautifully by the author, so the readers want to know how the story of each character looks, because it looks very beautiful and life. The data were analyzed to find out what Amir's characteristics were and why he felt so guilty. Based on monologue and dialogue, several steps were taken to analyze the data, compile the data, define the data, and classify the data. The result of the research is Amir's characterizations that he is a good and smart boy, there are several factors that make him selfish and a liar. The reason why he felt so guilty was when he let his servant and also his best friend Hassan, got hurt by three naughty boys at the end of the kite race. He saw for himself how the three children hurt Hassan, but Amir chosen to run. For fear that the same thing would happen to him. All the lies or selfishness that Amir did, because of he wanted to be noticed and loved by his father. Because Amir doesn't have a hobby that his father wanted, his father is indifferent to Amir. This can be a lesson for parents and teachers not to charge children with something they don't like. And every child has each ability and expertise. So that children can grow up to be good and talented children. Because of good characteristics are more important than good score.
