Abstract
Vocabulary is the most important one for who want to be mastery every language. In learning vocabulary, the activities should be simple, interesting and enjoyable. The media of card game is beneficial for the students since it helps students understand English vocabulary better and give positive impact to the students' vocabulary development. One of card games could be used to overcome the problem is matching card games. The media was interesting and attracting because matching game can be played pairs, or groups. So that, by playing matching game students can focus more to the lesson. This study was aimed at improving students' vocabulary mastery using matching card game. The research was conducted at MTs Al Amien Ngasinan in academic year 2019/2020. There were 20 students of seventh grade as the subject of research. The research employed classroom action research through a research procedure: the writer conducted observation to seek students' problem and conducted pre-cycle test to measure students' vocabulary mastery. Then, the researcher did the cycle 1, and continued with cycle 2; each cycle conducted in 3 meetings. There were three set of tests were used as research instrument, namely pre-cycle test, cycle test 1, and cycle test 2. The result showed that there were 9 students or 45% of the total students achieved excellent score (more than 80) with mean score 77 passed the criteria of success in cycle test 1. Since the criteria of success had not met yet, cycle 2 was performed. In the posttest of cycle 2, 17 students out of 20 achieved excellent score. In other words, 85% students with mean score 84.5 passed the criteria of success. There were only 3 students could not pass the criteria of success. The mean score of the students was showing improvement, it was 77 in the cycle test 1, and it improved into 84.5 in cycle test 2.
