Abstract
Movies provide an alternative way to teach students or children with learning disabilities or other problem, to teach English as a second language, to teach specific aspect of life and living. Talking about teaching and learning using movies, there is a movie that teaches us about education. It is Freedom Writers Diary movie. This movie is conducted to be studied because the writer is interested on Erin Gruwell's teaching learning process in teaching English. Erin Gruwell conducted contextual teaching and learning strategy to make the students motivated to learn in her class. Therefore, the writer wants to find Erin Gruwell personalities in order to make easier to analyze what is characteristics of Erin Gruwell so she can handle her students, any kinds of contextual teaching and learning activities that Erin Gruwell used to teach the students. Besides, it worth to know the implication of Freedom Writers Diary movie in relaion to education. This study uses descriptive qualitative method because the writer wants to describe and give information about the topic disscused. The instrument of this reseach is researcher herself. the object of this study is the movie that contain teaching and learning procces in Erin Gruwell's class and her students. The primary data is the action appears in the movie, while the secondary data is any comments and textbooks related to the movie. in analyzing data, the writer uses the theory of personality and the theory of contextual teaching and learning strategy to classify the teaching learning procces and to reveal the implication of this movie in relation to education. After analyzing the obtained data, the writer finds some personalities of Erin Gruwell. Her personalities are patient, optimist, creative and active. The writer also finds some strategies conducted in Erin Gruwell class. And the writer finds the implication of the movie in relation to education.
