Abstract

Grammar is an important part if we want to be better in speaking and writing. We can write and speak better because of mastering grammar. However, many researchers found that many EFL students who learn English still have problems in grammar when speaking and writing. It is caused by the media used do not work optimally with the situation. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of English Grammar Application in teaching grammar for EFL students. This research uses a quasi-experimental design. The population of this research is students of class X SMAN 2 Kediri. The samples were taken two classes, one class as experimental class (X MIPA 2 which is consisting of 34 students) and the other class as a control class (X MIPA 1 which is consisting of 34 students). In collecting data, the researcher used instruments in pre-test and post-test. The test is in multiple choice form. After post-test, the researchers analyzed the data using SPSS 25.0. The finding of this research shows that using English Grammar Application is an effective media in learning English for EFL Students. The data are normally distributed. It is proven by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test that p is. (0.067) for pre-test, and p (0.200) for post-test. The Levene‘s test shows p(0.058) > α(0.05). The homogeneity regression shows that p(0.609) > α(0.05). It means there is not interaction between covariate variables and independent variables. Then, the result of ANCOVA shows the significant value is p(0,000) < α(0.05). It was enough to reject the null hypothesis and accept the alternative hypothesis. Based on the above findings, the researcher concludes that English Grammar Application is an effective media for teaching grammar.
