Maulana, Iva. 2021. The Effect Of Using Direct Reading Thinking Activity (Drta) Strategy On Reading Comprehension Of Eighth Grade Students Of Mts Miftahul Ulum Kediri. English Departemen, Faculty of Education, State Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisor I: Dr. Mukhammad Abdullah, M.Ag and Advisor II: Bahruddin, S.S., M.Pd. Keywords:Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA), Lecture method and reading comprehension. Learning English used in junior high school / Mts is still in the form of conventional learning which results in low students' reading comprehension skills. One attempt to overcome the problem is the use of the Directed Reading Thinking Activity strategy in learning English with story material, namely recount text. This study aims to see the effectiveness of the DRTA strategy and to see the level of reading comprehension of students on recount text material. This research is an quasi experimental research design. The independent variable in this study is the DRTA strategy, while the variable placed in this study is the ability to read comprehension. The population used was 67 students. Sampling using all populations involved to be the research sample. This study uses tests to collect data and instruments in research. The data analysis technique used ANCOVA. The results showed that, the value of the experimental class students' learning index was 85.48 including the high category, the control class was 80.88 including the medium category. The average value of the reading comprehension of the experimental class was 75.50, while the control class was 71.17. It means that there was a difference between the experimental class and the control class. In conclusion, the use of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) strategy was a significantly affected on the eighth grade students‟ reading comprehension at MTS MIftahul Ulum Kediri.
