Abstract

Speaking anxiety is one of the difficulties experienced by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, particularly when they are required to speak in front of lecturers and classmates. This study aims to explore English Education students’ experiences in overcoming speaking anxiety through the use of the Loora application and to identify the coping strategies they developed while using the application for academic speaking tasks. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants were three second-semester students of the English Education Department at UIN Syekh Wasil Kediri who experienced speaking anxiety and used Loora independently to practice speaking. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings showed that students initially experienced communication apprehension, test anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation. After using Loora, they felt more comfortable and confident because the application provided a private and non-judgmental environment. The students also developed several coping strategies, including preparation, using text as a guide, repeated practice, self-correction, and confidence-building. The study concludes that Loora supported students in managing speaking anxiety while encouraging independent and repeated speaking practice.
