Abstract

As a main language skill, speaking must be learned by students for both getting their best achievement and further businesses in their future. The success of speaking-learning can be affected by various factors, like technology utilization and psychological factor named self-efficacy. This study aimed to find out whether any significant correlation among social media-used perception, self-efficacy, and speaking skill of senior high school students. A quantitative approach with correlational design was applied to analyze the data of this study. 144 tenth grade students of SMAN 7 Kediri were served as the participants. They filled two Likert Scale questionnaires and did a test. The questionnaires were on social media-used perception with 20 questions and self-efficacy with 27 questions. While, the test was on oral test which students describe a picture in 3 minutes. To analyze the correlation of the variables, interpretation of significant standard coefficient correlation with SPSS 26.0 was used. The findings showed that the coefficient correlation values between social media-used perception and speaking skill was 0.400, self-efficacy and speaking skill was 0.329, and social media-used perception and self-efficacy with speaking skill was 0.624. The results showed that there was significant and positive correlation of the variables because the coefficient correlation values were greater than r-table = 0.159. Further, the significant (sig.) F Change was 0.000 < 0.05 which means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that students’ social media-used perception and self-efficacy simultaneously correlated to their speaking skill on high correlation level.
