Abstract

Speaking is one of the essential language skills that enables students to express ideas, opinions, and feelings effectively in communication. However, many students still experience difficulties in speaking English due to limited opportunities for practice, lack of confidence, and insufficient use of English in daily communication. To address these challenges, Pondok Pesantren Al Munawaroh implements the English Morning Program as a daily activity designed to encourage students to use English actively. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the implementation of the English Morning Program at Pondok Pesantren Al Munawaroh and to explore how the program supports students' speaking skills. This study employed a qualitative research design involving two English tutors and ten eleventh-grade students at Pondok Pesantren Al Munawaroh. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, and analysed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings revealed that the implementation of the English Morning Program consisted of three interconnected stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The planning stage involved preparing learning objectives, materials, topics, classroom activities, and assessment. The implementation stage followed a structured instructional sequence consisting of opening activities, exploration, practice, performance and feedback, and closing activities. The evaluation stage was conducted through classroom observation, speaking performance assessment, and constructive feedback. Furthermore, the program supported students' speaking skills by providing regular speaking practice, improving vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency, increasing confidence, and encouraging the use of English in daily communication. In conclusion, the English Morning Program was systematically implemented and provided meaningful opportunities for students to develop their speaking skills through structured learning activities and continuous tutor guidance.
