Abstract
Reading comprehension skills in learning English remain indispensable. Nevertheless, students usually find it hard to understand texts since they often lack adequate vocabularies and appropriate learning materials. Many studies show that Quizlet remains one of the potential applications in boosting students' learning activities. As a result, this study attempts to investigate the effectiveness of Quizlet in teaching reading comprehension among the eighth-grade students at MTsN 1 Kediri. In this research, a quasi-experiment was utilized in which there were two groups – experimental group, being taught via Quizlet application, and the control group, which was taught via Duolingo application. The total number of participants included in this study was 60 students, which comprised two groups. Pre-test and post-test were carried out in order to measure students' reading comprehension level. Because of non-normality data distribution Mann-Whitney U test was performed. As a result, it has been observed that improvements were made by both groups after the experiment, while the experimental group recorded a higher mean value (93.73) compared to the control group (90.40). Yet, based on the results of the statistical calculation, there is no statistically significant difference between the two groups (Sig. = 0.746 > 0.05). To sum up, Quizlet can be considered an effective method for teaching students to read, similar to other digital programs like Duolingo.
