Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of psychological character analysis in film as a medium for representing the dynamics of human personality and conflict. The film The Creator portrays the psychological complexity of the main character, who experiences inner turmoil amid a conflict between humans and artificial intelligence. This study aims to describe the main character’s personality and to identify and analyze the conflicts he experiences based on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis employing documentary techniques through the analysis of scenes and dialogues in the film. Data were analyzed using the concepts of the id, ego, and superego. The results of the study indicate that all three personality structures are present in Joshua’s character, with the following frequencies: id (5 data), ego (6 data), and superego (3 data). The id is reflected in impulsive actions driven by emotions and trauma; the ego is evident in rational and strategic decision-making; and the superego is manifested in moral actions and empathy. Additionally, internal conflicts were identified, such as the conflict between duty and feelings, as well as external conflicts involving other individuals and the war environment.
