Abstract
Textbooks are one type of text, a book for use in an educational curriculum. Based on an experts a textbook as a teacher, a map, a resource, a trainer and an authority. As a teacher, a textbook gives students relevant information about grammar and vocabulary, as well as English speaking countries and their cultures. As a map, it shows an outline of linguistic and cultural elements as a structured programme and it guides students and teachers to follow the steps taken in previous lessons. A textbook is viewed as a resource as it contains a set of materials and activities available to the teacher from which one can choose. The objective of the study is to analyze the character education values presented in English textbook for the Second grade of senior high school. The researcher uses qualitative research to conduct this research and the researcher collect the data with document analysis, because this research analyzed a textbooks. The researcher describe the analysis of the character education values presented in the textbook entitled ―Bahasa Inggris for SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Grade XI. In this study, the instrument was researcher herself and supported with several journals and books. The result of the study is in the textbook entitled ―Bahasa Inggris for SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Grade XI” found 16 character education values that presented in this textbook. From 16 characters only 6 character educations that dominant to build students’ character education well. Those were independent, friendship or communication, fondness for reading, environment awareness, social care and responsibility. Based on the findings above, the researcher concluded that in the textbook entitled ―Bahasa Inggris for SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Grade XI” does not present all character education, because the researcher only found 16 from 18 character education.
