Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a crucial part of the English teaching and learning process because it becomes the main foundation in developing effective listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. One of the obstacles in vocabulary learning is the lack of student interest when using traditional media such as textbooks. Nowadays, students are more interested in visual and interactive learning methods, such as reading activities combined with entertaining spectacles. Comics are considered one of the potential learning media because they have high visual appeal and can increase students’ motivation in learning. Many students enjoy reading comics because they are entertaining, enjoyable, and able to encourage them to understand learning materials more enthusiastically. Therefore, this study aims to develop visual video media suitable for vocabulary mastery learning, especially Part of Speech materials including adjective, noun, and verb at MTs Futuhiyyah Kwagean Kediri. This research used the Research and Development (R&D) method by adopting the ADDIE model, which consists of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The final product of this research is Comic Short Film (CSF), a visual video media designed to support vocabulary mastery learning in a more interesting and interactive way. The results showed that the developed Comic Short Film media received a very good assessment from the material expert with a score of 94.66% and from the media expert with a score of 81%. After revisions based on experts’ suggestions, the media was implemented in class VIII. The implementation results indicated that teachers and students understood the material more easily and showed high enthusiasm during the learning process. Furthermore, the evaluation results stated that the product was feasible with revisions, particularly regarding improvements in visual transitions, sound settings, communicative language use, and the addition of relevant photo examples.
