Abstract
Derivational affixes are some morpheme derive or create new words by either changing the meaning of the part of speech. Being able to identify derivational affixes, it can be easier to develop vocabulary significantly. There are many ways to enrich vocabulary such as watching movie, reading a book and listening the music. The aim of this study is to know the kinds of derivational affixes and its function that found in Jim Scrivener’s Learning Teaching book. This study used descriptive qualitative research which the researcher was the main instrument. The data was taken from Jim Scrivener’s Learning Teaching book and other books that correlated as other references. The activities in analyzing the data are data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion or verification. While in analyzing the data, the researcher used Katamba’s theory. The result of this study has shown that there were 68 words which consist of 65 words changing class and 3 words maintaining class. In this research, the researcher found three functions of derivational affixes, they are adverb formation, noun formation and adjective formation.
