Abstract
Dwi Lestari, Ayu. (2025). The Effectiveness of Using Google Sites for EFL Students’ Reading Engagement in Eleventh Grade at SMAN 6 Kediri. Thesis, Department of English Language Education, Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Kediri. Advisors: (I) Prof. Dr. Fathor Rasyid, M.Pd, (II) Dr. Dewi Nur Suci, S.S, M.Pd. Keywords: Learning Engagement, Google Sites, Reading skills, Genre-Based Approach Reading engagement is a crucial aspect of comprehending English today. Google Sites, a platform that contains a website. This platform includes content such as learning flows, materials, videos, images, and audio that can attract students' motivation and improve their reading skills. Additionally, this platform can be tailored to meet students' needs and save time on assessing reading ability. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to determine the significant difference in student reading engagement between classes that used Google Sites and classes that did not use it in learning English. This study used a quasi-experimental design, dividing two classes into experimental and control groups. The experimental group learned narrative texts through Google Sites, while the control group studied narrative texts from a textbook. Additionally, both groups consisted of 50 participants from class XI at SMAN 6 Kediri who completed questionnaires. Subsequently, all data were analyzed using various formulas to perform descriptive analysis, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests with ANCOVA. The findings of the study showed that there is a significant difference in the use of Google sites on student reading engagement in English language learning. The results of data analysis using ANCOVA show a p-value < 0.001, which is smaller than (p < 0.05). This means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It can be concluded that the use of Google Sites is effective in increasing the reading engagement of 11th-grade students at SMAN 6 Kediri.
