Abstract
Students often struggle with writing procedure texts because they find it difficult to organize ideas, use correct grammar, and construct coherent sentences. At MAN 1 Kota Kediri, writing lessons are mostly taught with traditional media, which do not fully engage students. To address this problem, the study examines whether the scrambled word feature in the Wordwall application is effective in teaching writing skills by training students to arrange sentences correctly and develop better text organization. This study investigates the effectiveness of the scrambled word feature in the Wordwall application for teaching procedure text writing to the eleventh-grade students of MAN 1 Kota Kediri. A quasi-experimental design is employed, involving two groups: an experimental group taught using the scrambled word feature and a control group taught using PowerPoint. Each group consisted of 36 students. Data were collected through a pre-test and post-test, scored using a rubric assessing content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. Due to some data were not normally distributed, the Mann-Whitney U test is used for hypothesis testing. The findings show that both groups started with similar pre-test means (77.8 for the experimental group and 78.2 for the control group), but the experimental group achieved a higher post-test mean (84.9) compared to the control group (81.6). The significance value (0.033 < 0.05) indicates a statistically significant difference between the groups. These results demonstrate that the scrambled word feature effectively enhances students’ writing skills, particularly in organizing ideas, arranging sentences logically, and improving grammatical accuracy. Therefore, the study concludes that scrambled word feature of Wordwall application is effective in teaching students’ writing skill. It can serve as a useful and engaging media for improving students’ procedure text writing ability.
